Happy Diwali 2012!

Happy Diwali 2012!

Happy diwali 2012

“Diwali” the word has a special place in the heart of every Indian.
For Indians, Diwali is the festival that brings energy in life in different forms.
For me Diwali indicates the

•    Days of Harvest … Fields are full with the new harvest
•    Days of winter….  The days that give pleasant feeling to the body and mind
•    Days of spirituality…  Visiting the pilgrimages, worshiping the god
•    Days of leisure travel… Enjoying the holidays away from home along with family and friends.
•    Days to decorate home… Diwali brings people together & gives an opportunity to strengthen the relations.  So it is a perfect time to introduce new ideas at home and bring good changes.
•    Days to eat healthy food…  A variety of food is prepared at home and even distributed to friends and relatives.

There are a number of sweet memories associated with the festival from my childhood.  Diwali time used to be the period of twenty one days holiday for us.  So a long vacation with family and friends.
No burden of studies and plenty of time to play, new clothes to wear, gifts from near and dear ones ,  variety of food to eat and most importantly frequent family get-togethers in those days.
Diwali was the occasion when there was a plenty of time to draw rangolis, make killa along with friends, play carom.
Blasting the fire crackers used to be a subject of competition between brothers and sisters.  Normally girls in the family used to do the fire work only with the harmless crackers.

Sending greeting cards to friends and relatives was a special job that time.  There was no sms and email facility so we used to send home made cards. It was another joyful activity.  After some years ready greeting cards took its place.

Mother used to prepare variety of food like Chakali, Chiwada, Shankarpale, Shew, Karanji , Kadaboli and many other sweet items.   Cleaning the house before fifteen days was a great job.  But it was a great pleasure to help mother in every activity in the kitchen and cleaning the house.

Decorating the house with oil lamps and electric lamps and making a lantern at home was a fulfilled activity.   It was my favorite activity to light the oil lamps in the evening around the house.

So for me Diwali was an opportunity to have fun, play with colors of rangoli, and get love from near and dear ones, enjoy the food, play with friends.

Now days the picture has changed.  Many times people due to busy life schedules or due to job respocibilities are not able to give time to their family, friends or relatives even on festival days.  I will love to remind every one who is reading my article to remember that only the festival days have a great power to bring people together, make them realize the importance of being together, strengthen their relations, opportunity to show their love and faith on each other and most importantly to create a positive energy which later on helps to face every difficulty of life.

Many of my far away relatives and friends are now in touch with me due to internet so this year I have decided to send them my warm wishes with e-greeting card.  I will love to share my experience of creating the special greeting card with you.

Wish you all a very Happy Diwali.  May Goddess Laxmi bring Health, Wealth and Happiness in your life on this Diwali!
